Preview: Adelaide v Carlton
VENUE & TIME: AAMI Stadium, Saturday 23 May, 3.10pm (AEST)
HEAD TO HEAD: Played: 26, Adelaide 12, Carlton 14
LAST TIME: Adelaide 13.16 (94) def. Carlton 12.14 (86), Round 18 at AAMI Stadium, 2008.

WALKING WOUNDED: Adelaide's Nathan Bock will miss his third game in a row with a hamstring strain. Kurt Tippett has an ongoing quad complaint, midfielder Nathan van Berlo has had limited preparation for the clash while Scott Thompson missed some of the team's Wednesday training session but the trio are expected to play. For Carlton, Simon Wiggins will have a test his on his tight back while Andrew Carazzo (finger) is 2-3 weeks away. Andrew Walker (shoulder) and Robbie Warnock (foot) are unlikely to play in the first half of the season.

FORM: The best and worst of Adelaide's game was on show at the Gabba last weekend. The Crows dominated the Lions but wasted opportunities to take a 10-point lead into half-time. The Lions lifted after the break and the visitors had no response, eventually losing by 36 points. It's their third loss in a row and leaves them on the edge of the pack with a 3-5 record. Carlton, which holds a 4-4 record, was more convincing in Round 8, preying on an undermanned Collingwood. The Blues jumped out of the blocks with a 5.1 to 0.4 first quarter and were never headed in an impressive team display. It was a much-needed victory for Brett Ratten's boys who had lost to Fremantle and Hawthorn in previous weeks.

WHO'S HOT: Crows onballer David Mackay continues to impress when his team-mates are struggling for consistency. He collected 13 kicks and 17 handballs against the Lions and is one of the few players willing to play on at all costs. Chris Judd, Bryce Gibbs and Marc Murphy are always running hot so for a change let's add Heath Scotland to the discussion. The former Magpie picked up 25 possessions against his old side last week and showed some courageous acts which will please any Blues supporter.

WE THINK: It's not panic stations at West Lakes just yet but surely Adelaide is feeling under the pump this week. They've lost three games in a row, are in unfamiliar territory in 12th position, have a spluttering forward line and are missing their best defender in Bock. In the Crows' favour, they've won their past five games against the Blues and this week is a milestone game - Andrew McLeod becomes the club's games record holder on Saturday. Carlton punished Collingwood with its midfield engine purring nicely while its attack, in contrast to the Crows, always has the potential to kick a big score. Brendan Fevola will be pumped up for a big match after having a stinker last week. Everything points to a big Carlton victory but this is a crunch game Adelaide just can't afford to lose. The Crows to do it for Macca and their supporters who've yet to see a victory at AAMI Stadium. Adelaide by one point.

Crows crush poor Blues
Adelaide has celebrated Andrew McLeod's record-breaking game and broken a three-match losing streak by beating a slow-starting Carlton by 44 points at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

The Crows were all over the Blues in an 8.6 to 0.5 first half, were challenged in the third term before bouncing back in the final stanza to win 15.14 (104) to 8.12 (60).

McLeod had a tough day out against a negative Aaron Joseph but was chaired off the ground after becoming the Crows' games record holder with 313 appearances in tri-colours. He takes the record from former Crows captain Mark Ricciuto.

The 32-year-old wasn't the only Crow enjoying the occasion with the team's middle-range players, who've struggled in the past month, lifting for the dual Norm Smith Medallist and their supporters who hadn't witnessed a win this season.

Michael Doughty was a key player for the Crows with his shutdown role on Chris Judd and his 26 possessions, Chris Knights kicked five goals, Andy Otten was cool under pressure while Graham Johncock and Richard Douglas were important in the first half.

And of course Tyson Edwards (32 disposals) and skipper Simon Goodwin (29 touches) were ever reliable.

It was a nightmare away performance for the Blues, who lost Jarrad Waite with a knee injury in the first term, but some of their big name players - Nick Stevens, Matthew Kreuzer and Marc Murphy - lifted in the second half.

But in reality they were never in the hunt.

A poor kick-out by Bryce Gibbs, which was caught by the man on the mark Kurt Tippett, allowed the Crows to get the opening major of the first quarter.

It was an incident that typified the term for both teams with the Crows desperate to get their hands on the footy while the Blues were sloppy with their disposal.

Kicking against the breeze, the home side had 18 inside 50s to Carlton's eight and also got goals from Doughty and Jason Porplyzia.

But for all its dominance, Adelaide only led by 19 points at the first change.

The Crows continued their ascendancy in the second term with the home side making the most of their long range attempts.

Knights kick three goals for the term, including two from outside the arc, while Otten and Bernie Vince also added majors from beyond the 50-metre mark.

It gave Adelaide a commanding 49-point buffer with Neil Craig's boys collecting possessions at will.

In contrast the Blues were woeful, entering their forward 50 just four times for the term and not surprisingly went through the first half goalless.

Brendan Fevola, who struggled to get into the contest, had the best opportunity to break the duck but his long set shot hit the post.

Adelaide got the first goal of the second half but the drought was finally broken for Carlton at the five-minute mark of the third term - Bret Thornton tapped a ball into the path of Eddie Betts in the goal square.

It sparked a revival by the Blues with Kreuzer receiving two free kicks within range while Murphy swooped on some good ground work by Fevola to put his side within striking distance.

The Crows had a few chances to steady the ship but instead an opportunist Nick Stevens major reduced the difference to 27 points at the final change.

The change of ends provided Adelaide with the re-start it needed. Brent Reilly kicked a running major in the opening minute while a previously inaccurate Patrick Dangerfield joined the scorers after taking a mark on the lead.

Carlton didn't give up with a brilliant snap shot from Fevola and a Murphy running major keeping some interest in the game.

But there was just too much work for the Blues to do and in the end it was comfortable result for the Crows.
